When I began working with Mark, we created a contract which included a number of issues on which I wanted to work. Mark and I recently revisited that contract and virtually none of the issues still exist. through this process, Mark has taught me many things, including that I have the ability to face my fears, and that as long as I continue to work and be mindful, I will continue to expand my ability to live as fully and openly as I choose. It’s all in my hands.

My work with Mark has been life-changing, or perhaps better explained as life-inspiring. Through my therapy sessions with him, Mark has not only given me a broad lens with which to view both psychological and physiological health, but also my spiritual wellness. So I am thinking of you a lot this week. I am feeling reflective because this Thursday I celebrated 20 years of recovery and sobriety (I know, can you believe it!). I think back to my early years and you were such a big part of propelling me forward to such bigger and deeper levels of myself,  life, recovery and healing. My personal journey with Mark began in December at a time when I knew that a change was needed. My life was going through many difficult choices and obstacles and I needed someone to help  direct me on a path that was challenging and to face the reasons why these obstacles were preventing me from having a fulfilling and peaceful life. As I struggled with a pending divorce and trying to raise children with difficult issues of their own, Mark had the grace of faith, trust and support like no other individual that I have ever known before. Mark is an inspiration and motivator. His ability to meet a person where they are, assess where they have been and then motivate them to move forward to reach their full potential in spite of the crippling fear that has trapped them in mediocrity is deliverance from bondage. Almost 20 years ago, a shy, insecure, insanely pained 19 year old embarked on a journey that would absolutely CHANGE my life.  I was scared out of my mind but was encouraged by so many to take the leap of faith and go on Mark’s retreat to “find my soul”. And boy did I. I left my house angry, resentful, hurt, feeling unworthy and insignificant-and returned a completely different woman. This Soul Quest retreat was the turning point to my life’s healing and recovery.

Everyone has the realization that the things that have been in one’s life are just not right or those things just don't work any more. My personal journey with Mark happened this past year and it was one that I wished happened much sooner. But sometimes you just don't realize the tremendous pain that you are in until the pain slowly passes and you get that ultimate epiphany of self awareness only to ask yourself, “Why did you put up with all that?”   But you soon realize such because you found a compassionate and empathetic individual such as Mark who enables you to process that pain, direct it to an inner peace where you can safely express that pain, and then ultimately have the voice to continue working on yourself to be whom you have always meant to be.
